Because Dead Men Don’t Care

As long as there has been God, there have been men who have been hungry for God.  God is not hiding from us.  He is waiting to be caught by someone whose hunger is desperate.  Those who hunger after God have a lot in common.

  1. They are in pursuit of a fresh presence of Almighty God.
  2. They are not happy following God’s tracks. They are not satisfied seeing where God has been.  They follow the tracks of history until they apprehend his presence.

Let me tell you the difference between the truth of God and Revelation.  So many people are satisfied with truth.  Truth is where God has beenRevelation is where God is.  Much of what the church does today is determining and debating where God has been.  For years we have lived off someone elses encounter of God.  To the person who is seeking hard after God the moldly part of history must launch us in the pursuit of what God is doing now.  To those who pursue God, history must launch us into the pursuit of what God is doing right now.

I believe 2 Chronicles 7:14 is more than a revival theme verse.  God is telling us how to pursue Him, until we grab hold of Him, and feel the weight of his glory.  “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

LIFE PRINCIPLE: I believe the inescapable need of every believer is to sign their death certificate to the sin nature.  The Word of the Lord is stop seeking his hand (benefits and provision) and seek Him.  The truth is we have programmed our services so tightly we really have no room for the Spirit.  We will not let God out of the proverbial box because he will ruin everything.  The problem I encounter in many churches is they want to go home and I want God!

God doesn’t care about our music, steeples, impressive buildings.  Your carpet and programs do not impress Him.  He doesn’t care about anything you can do for Him.  He only cares about your answer to one question: “Do you want Him?”

He says, “Seek my face…” Then …

  1. I will hear
  2. I will forgive
  3. I will heal.

There is a danger here.  You can catch God, ask Jacob.  When you catch Him, He will mess your life up – Everything will change.  God will absolutely change your walk!  Rise up, pursue His presence, become a person who is in pursuit of him.

In 1952, Duncan Campbell, a well know preacher in Scotland, heard the call of God to become someone who pursued hard after God.  He left his church and his country to go to the Hebrides Islands and preach the Gospel.  Because he listened to the voice of God an entire country was converted to Christ.

1837 to 1843, Robert Murray McCheyne, pastor of St. Peters Church, Dundee, Scotland, followed hard after God.  He wept over his messages as he thought of the thousands of people who would come and hear the Gospel and respond to the altar call to repent.  Why? Look at Galatians 2:20.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

This scripture so moved in his life that it changed everything about him.  His preaching, his teaching, his reaching the people in his community.  It even changed his prayer life.  Praying eighteen hours a day for the people of his community.
